Waify is finally EATING. And I don't mean just one or two bites... I mean EATING... and i am HAPPY!
At 12:30am, i was starving. I had nothing in my fridge, so i decided to drive to the 24 hour gas station to pick up, among other things, a tuna sandwich.
As soon as I got home, i ripped open the sandwich and swallowed it all... almost. i had about a bite left, and i suddenly realized that maybe Waify might like some. So I smeared some of the tuna onto my finger and held it up to Waify's mouth. She sniffed it for several seconds, then took a lick. Then another lick. Then a final lick that took the entire chunk of tuna! i scooped another chunk from my sandwich and offered it to her again. She ate that too.
For the past few days, she had eaten a total of 5 or 6 bits of dry food. I had offered some "gourmet" wet food to her before, but she barely even sniffed it. She just didn't have the appetite. But after my tuna finger licking experience, a light bulb went on in my head. "Maybe NOW she's ready to eat!"
So i sprint downstairs, pop open a can of the wet food, scoop about 1/4 of it onto a plate, and run back upstairs. As soon as I put it down, Waify was eating it! She ate the whole portion and licked the plate clean. So i ran back down and put another portion of the same size on the plate again. She practically finishes this, too, then settles in for some self-cleaning and resting.
Success!! I am just glad she's eating. Also, she started showing signs of normal cat activity today for the first time. She swatted at a toy mouse, batted a ball around the room, used a scratching post, etc. I think she is finally starting to become accustomed to my room. She is also beginning to trust me more. I've been very gentle and moved very slowly when approaching her. I petted her every chance I got. She used to flinch if i moved my hand too quickly. Now, she's still a bit cautious, but gives me the benefit of the doubt before flinching or running off.
So all in all, i'm pretty happy at how things have gone today. Oh, by the way, she slept next to me ON my bed (instead of under it) throughout all of last night. I even remember accidentally hitting her with my arm in the midst of unconsciously repositioning myself while sleeping... but she did not scurry away. She just stayed there... until i woke up this morning.
