A brief hisstory:
HarveySonar.com is the 3rd website of the waify/sonar/harvey/stinky cat blogging empire. The original blog, WaifySonar.net, was co-authored by Waify and Sonar. Sadly, cancer took Waify in April 2006. We decided to leave waifysonar.net in a static state in rememberance of Waify. Despite a rough start to her life, she was a very special kitty with a gentle soul.
Within a few days of Waify's passing, Sonar was unexpectedly joined by two other kitties, Harvey & Stinky. This gave rise to our 2nd blog, HarveyStinkySonar.com. Harvey & Stinky had previously lived with me (a.k.a. Dad) for a year before moving away with their former owner (who eventually abandoned them). Harvey & Stinky were already familiar with me, but they were completely new to Sonar. After several weeks of cautious introductions and gradual acclimation, the three kitties finally began to get along quite nicely. Sadly, Stinky suddenly became very ill in July 2007 and passed away from FIP. We will never get accustomed to the pain of losing a little one.
As much as we were devastated by the loss of Waify and Stinky, we slowly recovered and realized that life must go on. It helped tremendously when we reminded ourselves that we were very lucky to have had such wonderful feline siblings.
With this 3rd new website, HarveySonar.com, Harvey and Sonar carry on their neverending quest for adventure... and food. Mainly food.
(For a few months in early 2008, the duo began blogging to a 4th experimental website, SonarHarvey.com. It was created using the iWeb application in Mac OSX. However, since Harvey and Sonar didn't always bring their MacBooks with them on their globetrotting adventures, they eventually decided to publish exclusively to HarveySonar.com since it had a more accessible, multi-platform, web-based blogging system.)

SONAR
Sonar was a tiny little kitten--only a few weeks old--when someone found him at a shipyard in the Port of Oakland, CA. He had a gash in his head and was slightly malnourished. After Hopalong Animal Rescue got him stitched up and nursed him back to health, volunteer Liz D fostered him until he reached 16 weeks of age (the minimum for adoption). On his very first showing at Hopalong's mobile adoption site, he was snatched up by... me (a.k.a. Dad). Sonar melted my heart with his big green eyes and little pink nose. He was very energetic and inquisitive... yet still very gentle. And, most importantly, he was so little!!! (To this day, I'm still constantly reminding him that he's TOO LITTLE!) At the mobile adoption site, I detected some serious competition from other potential adopters. Within only a few minutes of arriving and being displayed to the public, he immediately won the hearts of everyone present. But at that time, I had already been speaking with a Hopalong volunteer about adopting another cat that was also there that day, Waify. After asking if I could adopt Sonar as well, we decided to put Waify and Sonar into the same cage to see if they would get along. They did! And the rest is history. Today, although Sonar has grown up and weighs about 8 pounds, I still think of him as my baby.
